Dwarf Auction
***Argg...I see the game breaking bug, that you can't actually ever get a profit... this will hopefully teach me to make smaller games and play test them properly... argg oh well***
Welcome to Dwarf Auction my take on a Dutch Auction, keep track of the goods and their market prices and get through all 7 lots to finish the game.
Dev Blog:
I like to keep these as a bit of a blog about my time in game development. Honestly, I tried to make a simple game. I thought, what could be simpler than a little auction game? A few things roll in, a few things roll out, keep a ledger simple.
But, as usual, I fill the time rather than the project. Everything was going swimmingly until Saturday, when I thought, let's get the AI in now. This was my first time working with AI where I actually wanted it to think and respond to the environment, and man, did I overthink it. I spent the entire day getting it to work, only for it to end up being so fiddly and nuanced that it was never really going to work exactly as needed.
Then, on Saturday evening, I realized I still had a million things to do and only a few hours left. My original plan was to have everything finished on Saturday and spend a relaxed Sunday working on the juice the part of game development I actually enjoy the most. Instead, Sunday became a stressful race against the clock, trying to get everything working. But I think I've finally got it.
I love building systems, but I really need to tone it down and keep things simpler. Oh well maybe on one day I'll finally make a nice, small game with lots of juice.
